Silver Print Press was created in 1990 because Peter Miller (Who is Peter Miller? That's me, the sole owner of Silver Print Press) could not find any publisher to print Vermont People.

So I mortgaged the house and self-published. Most of the books I have done have paid for themselves (barely, and one lost big time. My photography sales have been what has kept this company alive). I am a publisher but at heart I just want to write and photograph and I do not wish to take on the business of publishing other people's works. I have neither the time nor the gumption to do that. I work alone. There are no employees and I have learned the hard way that there is not enough cash flow to pay for an employee.

Well, let's backtrack a bit. Silver Print Press did publish and distribute Stick Season Grouse by Ted Ross. However, he paid for the book and we take a percentage for distributing it.

Silver Print Press also published Vermont Gathering Places that was written and photographed by me. However, the production of the book was paid for by The Preservation Trust of Vermont as a tool to promote their agenda of saving Vermont's small towns. It is their book, I was paid a fee to do it, and Silver Print Press distributes it.

So we do publish books other than my own, as long as they are paid for and as long as I like the subject. We do very high quality work. The books we have published have won five national book awards.

I also am putting in our online catalog photographs, prints and some notecards. If you have a product that seems to fit our style, why, email me.

A small publisher has to do very precise regional marketing. Most of my books are of Vermont subjects. I have found when I use distributors to market books out of state that I often lose money. Books are returned for credit and usually when I receive them they are damaged.

I'll answer your queries and questions but just remember we are small as a pin head and there is only so much of Peter Miller than can be spread around.

You can email Peter Miller at info@silverprintpress.com.
